Part 1 - I Thought I Was Learning Reiki

What I was actually learning about myself

I Thought I Was Learning Reiki
Reclaiming Her The Podcast

When I signed up for my first Reiki course, I didn't really know what I was getting myself into.

I knew I'd been feeling drawn toward healing, energy and intuition. I knew I'd heard the word Reiki before. But I didn't have a clear plan.

I was simply following a nudge.

And then Reiki became part of my everyday life.

I wanted to understand it. I wanted to practise it. I wanted to Reiki everything. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But somewhere in those first few weeks, I started realizing that Reiki wasn't just teaching me about energy.

It was teaching me how to listen.

To my body.

To my own energy.

To what I was feeling around other people.

And eventually, to things I couldn't quite explain.

For most of my life, I'd had a very different relationship with my body. As a competitive gymnast and athlete, I expected my body to perform. I pushed through soreness, fatigue and pain because I believed effort could get me where I wanted to go.

Until eventually, my body started forcing me to stop.

Reiki gave me another way of relating to it.

Instead of asking, How can I push through this?

I started asking:

What do you need right now?

And that shift changed more than my relationship with my body.

As I began practising Reiki on other people, I started noticing emotions, physical sensations and intuitive information that I didn't yet understand. At first, I assumed it was all Reiki because I didn't have the language for the different experiences I was having.

I just knew that something was happening.

And the more I listened, the more I noticed.

This episode is the beginning of that story.

And maybe there's something in your own life that you've been noticing, too.

Maybe your body has been trying to get your attention.

Maybe you've had a feeling you can't explain.

Maybe there's something you're curious about but keep talking yourself out of.

You don't need to have all the answers.

Sometimes the first step is simply learning to listen.

In this episode, I talk about:

  • Why I initially wanted to Reiki everything

  • My first 30 days of Reiki practice

  • The relationship I had with my body as an athlete

  • What chronic pain taught me about slowing down

  • Learning to listen instead of constantly pushing

  • My first experiences practising Reiki on other people

  • The unexpected emotions and sensations I began noticing

  • Why I initially thought all of these experiences were simply Reiki

  • What happened when I started paying closer attention

  • And the first hints of something I hadn't yet learned how to explain

A question to take with you:

What have you been noticing lately that you haven't really given yourself time to listen to?

You don't have to understand it yet.

You can just notice it.
